Our Orangutan Mekar Indah Espresso is produced on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. This special Orangutan Espresso is characterized by its mild acidity, notes of cocoa, and nutty flavor. With its name, this espresso also carries responsibility and contributes to animal welfare. The Orangutan Coffee Project places great importance on fairness and transparency in the cultivation, processing, and trade of green coffee. It combines rainforest and species conservation with sustainable, organic farming – from the plantation to the roastery. A premium of 0.50 cents per kilo of exported green coffee goes to the small farmers in the village "Mekar Indah" (meaning "Beautiful Blossom") as a compliment for organic farming and nature conservation guidelines. Another 0.50 cents go to the Sumatra Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) of the Swiss PanEco Foundation. Their goal is to protect the endangered great ape species, the orangutan, and preserve its habitat, the rainforest. Our Orangutan coffee is freshly roasted and delivered directly to you. When you enjoy each cup of espresso you order, you also support this special project.
