Andraschko is Germany’s largest roastery dedicated to Specialty Coffee, which represents a dedication to the highest standards in coffee sourcing and production. The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has been setting benchmarks for superior, fair trade coffee since 1982. It is a non-profit membership organization that brings together global communities of coffee professionals around the values of sustainability, equitability, and quality.
Since the early 1980s, the Specialty Coffee Association has been deeply involved in developing standards, expanding education, and bringing together communities around the world in order to advance and improve sourcing and making coffee. It has established refined evaluation criteria for raw coffee, emphasizing sustainability throughout the supply chain. Today, the trade association’s global community of coffee professionals are dedicated to sharing knowledge and creating a sustainable future for coffee.
The Andraschkos joined the SCA in the 1990s. “We had great difficulties getting good coffee. The specialty coffee movement was just beginning. Willy began attending the Specialty Coffee Association conventions in the US. We visited Italian roasteries. We met with Piero Bambi at La Marzocco — who had just five mechanics at the time. Even Starbucks and Peet’s Coffee only had a few shops. We traveled, we learned, we roasted coffee.” The Andraschkos have continued to travel regularly from South India to Central America, Brazil to Kenya, believing that true understanding of coffee comes from experiencing the land where it is cultivated. “We find special coffee farmers, work closely together with them, and hope to motivate them to continue growing unique, top-quality coffees.” These long-lasting relationships with the farmers guarantees quality cultivation, fair trade and transparency.
